Chef James Sexton holds a Master’s degree in Education from Ohio University, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the College of Saint Francis and an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Culinary Arts from Joliet Junior College. After earning his degree in Culinary Arts Chef Sexton held various positions in the food industry for nine years. After finishing his Bachelor’s degree Chef Sexton began his teaching career in the Hospitality Department at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio. Chef Sexton began working at Virginia Tech in 1988 with a dual position as the Executive Chef of the University President and lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Chef Sexton became a full time Instructor for the HTM Department in 2005 to present. He is the Advisor for the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality Association and operates and/or oversees all food labs within the HTM lab kitchen, is a certified ServSafe instructor, and continues to lecture the required food course for the department.
